Favorite Thing to Do
(Other than CF, of course): Just about anything car oriented. I’ve always been a gear-head. Until recently, I usually had some interesting project car in the garage.
Why did you begin crossfitting? I had a number of friends who were doing it. I was tired of working out by myself at the typical gym.
What’s your first memory of CrossFit Hilton Head? Doing tire flips on my first trial Saturday with a husband/wife couple. We were the only ones there. The husband was doing all of the work for the wife and she was noticeably taken back by that. They didn’t return. I signed up for boot camp.
What was your worst workout ever? Murph and Fight Gone Bad come to mind pretty quickly but the most humbling experience was the I CAN Games. I still think back on that day and say to myself, “If only I had…”. I disappointed myself that day.
What’s the best part about coming to CrossFit Hilton Head? Seeing and working out with my friends. It’s a great group of people.
Do you have any CFHH goals? 400# dead lift, 205# power clean, 10 unbroken 95# overhead squats and to do a lot better at the I CAN Games this year.
What has CFHH done for you outside of the box? It’s redefined how I live my life. From what I eat to how I support my community. It has helped me to better appreciate the life I have and to share these blessings with others.
Do you have any advice for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Hilton Head? Be prepared to amaze yourself with what you can do and grow a beard. It makes you stronger.
What’s next for you outside the gym? I’m proud to be associated with the Honor Our Heroes Foundation. I’m looking forward to becoming more active with this foundation in 2013.
Would you rather:
Be stronger or faster? Faster.
Eat Paleo Pizza or drink Norcal margaritas? Norcal margaritas.
Do Fran naked in front of all your friends and PR or do Fran clothed and never have your time improve? Fran naked if they have blindfolds.
Do 20 muscle ups for time or 200 double unders for time? Duh. 200 double unders.
Drink out of somebody else’s water bottle or wear somebody else’s gym clothes? I already do that during most of the water breaks anyway. (just kidding)
JMez is truly The Godfather of this organization. He has been with us a long time and his enthusiasm, his support and his work ethic have never waned. He has a great sense of humor, he is a great competitor and it really is an honor to have him as part of our community. I think his point of view, his presence and his desire to both understand himself on a deeper level through the discipline of CF and be a positive influence in the world make us all better people.
