Favorite Thing to Do (Other than CF, of course): Eat cookies in bed while watching black & white movies.
Biggest Goal: To obtain my doctorate by the time I’m 40.
Why did you begin crossfitting? I attended the WOD for Hope Haven and was impressed by the strength and endurance of the athletes. At the time I was not comfortable with my weight and I thought this would give me the motivation I needed to change.
What’s your first memory of CrossFit Hilton Head? My first Saturday class after bootcamp. The workout was hang squat cleans, S2OH, thrusters and over the bar burpees in-between. I was the last one to finish by 10 minutes and Jake was standing over me shouting “just breathe.” It was a humbling experience to say the least.
What was your worst workout ever? Any WOD that involves overhead squats.
What’s the best part about coming to CrossFit Hilton Head? The sense of accomplishment I feel when I complete a workout and the camaraderie within the CFHH community. It’s one of the only place that criticisms are truly constructive and people push you to step outside of your comfort zone.
Do you have any CFHH goals? Of course! 1 HSPU and 1 strict pullup…you have to start somewhere.
What has CFHH done for you outside of the box? Honestly, CF is the balance in my life. I don’t think I would be able to do all things I do in a week if it weren’t for CFHH. It has taught me to push myself beyond my limits, manage my time efficiently, and look for inspiration from those people around me.
Do you have any advice for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Hilton Head?The hardest part is walking through the door.
What’s next for you outside the gym? I’m not sure…and I think I kind of like that.
Would you rather:
Be stronger or faster? faster
Eat Paleo Pizza or drink Norcal margaritas? Paleo Pizza if Melanie makes it.
Do Fran naked in front of all your friends and PR or do Fran clothed and never have your time improve? Do Fran naked….most of my friends would join me.
Do 20 muscle ups for time or 200 double unders for time? Double unders.
Drink out of somebody else’s water bottle or wear somebody else’s gym clothes? Water bottle.
Kelly never stops smiling and never quits. I have watched her become more and more confident in herself and her journey through our strength and conditioning program and our community. She is a very inspiring human and I look forward to the day when she becomes Dr. Zannino. She is an absolute pleasure to see so early in the morning, working hard, sweating, smiling and setting a fantastic tone for the rest of the day.
