Coach JFord tells his CrossFit story:
“I began working out at CFHH in June of 2010 and to be blatantly honest I was very skeptical. Coming from an endurance background and regularly training for marathons, I questioned the 10 minute CrossFit WODs and I wasn’t quite sure what I would get from adding the CF strength and conditioning to my 50 mile running weeks. Initially joining CFHH, I was gauntly thin, weighed 140 lbs with little muscle, ate lots of carbs and believed I was in the best shape of my life. I measured my fitness solely on my ability to run long distances.
Implementing CrossFit into my training led to astonishing results and has changed my whole perspective and approach to running and triathlons. What I noticed is that I was getting stronger and it happened fast! The more I trusted the CFHH coaches the better my running got. About 6 months into CF, I needed to figure out a way to marry my passion for running with my new passion for CrossFit. So I dropped the mileage, took a leap of faith and solely trained CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance for my races. 1 year and ½ later, I had put on 20lbs of lean body weight, dropped my Marathon PR by 18 minutes, and above all found a MORE FUN and SMARTER way to train.
I came on board as a CFHH coach to show Endurance athletes that there is a better way to train. Craig let me take the reins on starting CrossFit Hilton Head’s Endurance Program and I am forever grateful for the opportunity. I am excited to work with people who are highly motivated and determined to make change. Individuals who have goals and are willing to go to the furthest lengths are my favorite. I love proving to Endurance athletes that faster race times and a higher fitness level are possible, doing less miles and more CrossFit.
CrossFit has changed my entire outlook; not only on training, but on life itself. I look at marathons now and shrug them off knowing that my mental strength is greater than anyone toeing the start lines. CFHH to me is a symbol of growth. It’s allowed me to evolve as a person and face situations in my life with maximum confidence. In my eyes, CFHH athletes and coaches are my family. It’s a family I’m privileged, honored and grateful to be a part of. I look forward to the opportunity to train with you real soon!”
